Happy May Day from CLU, Your California Legislative Union
July 1, 2026 is fast approaching. This is the day legislative staff will have the legal right to organize and collectively bargain. For the first time, we have the opportunity to align how we work with the values we fight for every day on behalf of Californians — transparency, fairness, and accountability. Transparent hiring practices, pay that reflects our experience and expertise, and clear, consistent workplace policies. These are not abstract ideals; they are the same principles we advocate for in our work every day.
Our union will give us a real voice in the decisions that shape our lives inside and outside of the office.
We’ve launched a website to help staff stay informed or get involved. It’s a great place to learn more about AB 1, how we got here, and what the process of forming a union looks like. It’s also a place where you can share your perspectives and ideas to make this a union you’re proud to be part of. We want to ensure everyone has access to the information and tools they need to participate.
To everyone who has already reached out: thank you. We are working through every message and will be following up. If you haven’t heard from us yet, you will. If you haven’t shared your experience, now is the time. Talk with your colleagues. Compare notes. The stronger our collective voice, the stronger our position when we reach July 1.
In Solidarity,
California Legislative Union
